This bead is meant to bring good health to its owner. It has a shape of calabash (aka bottle gourd), but it meaning goes beyond that. The images of a mole and a bird are intertwined in this bead, representing the elements of the earth and the air,  the top of the world and the underworld. The head of one animal is the nose of the other and the wings turn into the paws when looking at it from a different angle.

In Ancient China a calabash was used as a vessel for pure drinking water, which was truly rear and precious in those days. This is how a calabash became a symbol of prosperity.

Another legend reveals that Taoist monks were capable of catching the evil spirits with a calabash, which in its turn was perceived as an absorber of negative energy. A different version of the legend states that the monks collected the energy of the world into a calabash and then drew it out of the vessel in smaller quantities when the need arose. 

This bead is inspired by ancient Turkish amulet that protects from the evil eye, also known as the eye of Fatima. According to the legend the daughter of the prophet Mohamed gave her fiancé the eye amulet when he was leaving for the war so it would bring him home safely. Turkish artists have been creating eye-shaped amulets made of glass for hundreds of years, it is meant to suppress the negative energy of ill-wishers and enhance one’s own positive energy.

The shape of this bead is symbolic and derived from two crossing circles which are called vescia piscis (fish bubble or fish eggs in Latin). Vesica Piscis is an ancient synomym of  yoni, or vulva, meaning female generative power, the spirit of a Holy Mother, who gave birth to all life on Earth, symbolizing fertility in general. This symbol also stands for amniotic fluids, that according to the legend transformed into seas and oceans.
